Disaster Recovery That Actually Works When You Need It
April 22, 2026 5 min readBy Novenrix Infrastructure Practice
A disaster recovery plan you've never tested is a hypothesis, not a safeguard. The organizations that recover cleanly are the ones that rehearse.
Define what 'recovered' means
Set clear recovery-time (RTO) and recovery-point (RPO) objectives per system, based on business impact. Not everything needs sub-minute recovery — and pretending it does wastes budget.
Test like it's real
- Automate backups and verify restores regularly.
- Run game-day exercises with the actual runbooks.
- Measure against your RTO/RPO and close the gaps.
When a real incident hits, confidence comes from having done it before.
